of the two, I like this one better. I'm not a big fan of couches that look overstuffed. I prefer cleaner lines. Leather is nice and very kid friendly. We have several friends with leather couches and they love it. It's also a nice neutral when you're decorating and just gets better looking as it ages.
I have been searching for a couch for a long time in hopes that I can afford a new one sometime soon. My recommendation would be to check ksl classifieds every day for a couple weeks at least until you find something you like. There is always new stuff listed for WAY cheaper than you could get at a furniture store. In fact, I think I just saw a nice 9 piece living room set brand new for about 500 bucks on there the other day. Just a suggestion!
I think making sure it wipes clean easy is very importanth. For some reason I always manage to drop a chocolate chip or something else equally smooshable and so I really think having something that will be able to stay looking nice after you have kids is worthwhile. I read that anything with staples or springs is bad in a couch. They fall apart quicker. Microfiber is a great easy to clean fabric too and I know that's what the other couch was. Leather would be more ideal for wiping clean but it might not be what you want. I think a couch is something worth splurging on but I don't think I could spend more then $1200 unless it was the couch of my dreams. I'd rather stay under $800 personally. That's my two cents. Good luck!
Ooh, they both look nice. We just got new couches over the summer and love them. We got microfiber, its super easy to clean! We really wanted leather though, so if you found some for a good price you may want to go with that. I think they both look nice though!
