Fun in the Fiat

Been back nearly 2 weeks now.
Still no mail postmarked from Switzerland. Insert sigh of relief here.

You see, we rented a car when we were in Switzerland.
The car we got was FIAT and it did not disappoint.

Cruising through the alps in this knock-off mini cooper was SO. MUCH. FUN. Maybe a little too much fun.

Doesn't it just look like this car belongs to Brandon?

We didn't have to drive too much while we were in Davos, the highest town in Europe. We had other means of getting around.

Mountain trains.

Bicycles.

Gondolas.
Teeter-totters.

and Trams.

We loved this place. I had already been twice before but its still just as good as the first time.
Who wouldn't love a place that looked like this?

It really is one of our all-time favorite places.
However, we decided to journey to Interlaken on our last day in Switzerland.
Because Interlaken is majestic.
It's just too bad that the weather wasn't better.

As we were driving from Interlaken to the airport in our Fiat, we were having the best conversation.
We were reminiscing about all the good chocolate and all the good zopf and all the good Le Gruyere cheese and all the good yogurt.
And how beautiful Switzerland is and what a breath of fresh air (literally) it was.
And just talking about life.

Then, all of a sudden-- FLASH! It was as if someone had just taken a picture of us. Now, who in their right mind would be standing on the freeway with a camera? I'm sure the picture of us looked ridiculous since we were so startled. Then it all came back to me.

I remember hearing that in Germany, cops don't pull people over for speeding. Instead, they use radar cameras. If you are speeding, then the camera takes a picture of your car and you get a nice little ticket in the mail a few weeks later.

We deduced that Switzerland was the same way. What a way to end our Switzerland segment. You would think we'd be bummed and stressed. Instead, we burst into laughter and started making faces that the camera should have captured if we would have had some warning.

But perhaps the funniest part is that a similar thing had happened just a few hours earlier on our way to Interlaken.
Switzerland tunnels are looonng.
Sometimes miles long.
So its easy to just go with the flow and forget how fast your going as you make your way through.
Especially in a fun little car like the Fiat.

As we passed an emergency exit, the green light suddenly changed to red. Other cars were going faster than us, so we made ourselves feel better by saying that it wasn't a speed radar. At least we hope so.

Like I said, we have yet to receive any tickets in the mail and we hope it stays that way. But we did learn a few valuable lessons.

1. Beware of speed radars when traveling in Switzerland.
2. If/when our teenage driver comes to us and says, "Mom, Dad, I got a speeding ticket", simply smile, say its okay and then tell them about the time we almost got 2 in one day...all because of the fun we had in the Fiat.
