grandpa max's funeral

All 5 of Max's children and as many grandchildren was possible gathered for his funeral in Aberdeen. It was a crazy few days...nearly 30 people at the farm house that has one bathroom. But all the craziness was worth it so we could be there to celebrate the inspiring life my Grandpa lived.

Here is everyone the night before talking and reminiscing and figuring out all the logistics for the following day. So many fun cousin sleepovers happened in this living room!

All of us would not fit in the farm house, so we created a tent city in the backyard and showered at the neighbors--meaning the house 1/2 mile away.
 

I'm not usually one for funerals, but I came away from it having been inspired in so many ways and learning lots about my grandpa and why he was they way he was. Because he served in the military, he received special naval honors at the graveside. It was neat to hear the bugle play and to hear the guns fire.

1920 ~ 2012
Max Kendall King, 91, died July 17, 2012, in Orem, Utah, of congestive heart failure. Born Sept. 3, 1920, in Aberdeen, Idaho, to Paul Dean and Sabra Norean Kendall King. Max lived most of his life there. In recent years, he resided in Utah with daughters Marilyn and Ruth.
After graduating from Aberdeen High School, Max served an LDS mission in California, and served in the Navy duringWorld War II. He attended BYU, where he met Ilene Hale. They were married Aug. 15, 1947, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and settled in Aberdeen on a dairy farm. He loved the LDS Church and serving others. His numerous church callings included Bishoprics, stake missionary, High Priest group leader, and home teacher. Max and Ilene served two LDS missions (Pennsylvania Pittsburg, Louisville Kentucky). He was active in PTA, farmer organizations, and the American Legion.
His loves were family, friends, fishing, reading, traveling, spending time with family, especially his great-grandchildren, and his horses.
He is survived by children, David (Marilyn Allen - deceased), Steven (Patricia Ihli), Neil, Marilyn (Steven) Albertson, Ruth, 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, siblings, Howard (Norma) King, Koral (Wilford-deceased) Robinson, Beatrice (Waynard) Jensen, Maurice (Nancy) King, Roma Jean (Robert) Stevens, and Veryl (Karen) King, in-laws Dorothy King (Lowell) and Garth Youd (LaRue). Max was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene, daughter, Charlotte, his parents, brother Lowell, sister LaRue Youd.
