i am a mother

I get to teach all the young women today. Even though Mother's Day is a hard day for me and makes me miss my mom, I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect on my own mother, the many woman who have influenced my life, and the blessing it is to finally be a mother myself.

In preparing my lesson, I read a mind-changing book called I Am A Mother. It made me proud to be a mother and not "just a mom". Wonderful book.

I also came across the wonderful quote by Julie B. Beck from her Mothers Who Know talk back in 2007:

"Mothers who know do less. They permit less of what will not bear good fruit eternally. They allow less media in their homes, less distraction, less activity that draws their children away from their home. Mothers who know are willing to live on less and consume less of the world’s goods in order to spend more time with their children—more time eating together, more time working together, more time reading together, more time talking, laughing, singing, and exemplifying. These mothers choose carefully and do not try to choose it all. Their goal is to prepare a rising generation of children who will take the gospel of Jesus Christ into the entire world"

I am inspired. I want to be a mother just like this.

And this is one of my favorite things about being a mom: having Blake fall asleep in my arms while holding tightly onto my shirt collar. I hope he can say I am a mother who knew.

  1. great quote from Sis. Beck. I miss those babies on your chest moments. Megan only sleeps on me at church these days... if I'm lucky.
