is blogging a dying art?

I'm afraid to say that it seems like it is. My list of favorite blogs to check is getting smaller and smaller. Not because I don't like reading them, because so few are being updated. I get it: life gets busy. We have more to do than to record every breakfast, craft, outing, or moment that takes place in our life. Plus, since Facebook and Instagram are so much easier to update to, blogging can fall by the wayside.

Sometimes the last thing I want to do at the end of the day is pull out the camera, upload pictures, choose which ones to post, try to think of witty captions, and write a post.

But tonight, as I was getting ready to print our 2012 blog book, I was reminded why I LOVE to blog. Our blog is our place to capture the moments, big and small (as many as we have time to record) and remember them before they fade from our memory.

"You will have significant experiences. I hope that you will write them down and keep a record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. Some may be significant only to you. Some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experiences." -Gordon B. Hinckley, 2006

If I tried to pull together a yearly scrapbook, it would never happen and our family history would never be documented. But writing one post at a time is like eating an elephant one bite at a time. And come the end of the year, I have an entire collection of memories.

So, even if blogging is a dying art, I'm going to stick with it. Because my collection of blog books is just about my favorite thing on our bookshelf.

PS. I use Blog2Print to print my blog out. It has limited customization options, but it seriously takes me only about 20 minutes to get it ready to print. That is my kind of thing! They have 15% off all orders right now through 4/3 in case you want to print yours out! The code is SpringB2P.

  2. I don't think blogging is a dying art, I think it's just that for people that weren't that into it, there are now easier/less time-consuming options to share snippets from their life. I will continue to blog, as you do, because I use it for journaling. I don't really miss the blogs I used to read that have fallen quiet and I find that the blogs I love the most are just continually getting better. So maybe it's weeding out the mediocre and leaving us with the best? :)

Thanks for the link to the Blog2Print, too. I've been wanting to make a blog book for a while now, but been overwhelmed by the options. I think I'll do better within stricter limitations!

  3. Thanks for sharing. I used Blurb last time I "printed my blog". I had problems with my pictures being high enough quality though, so it took me hours to re-upload all of them. Do you upload your pictures at a certain quality so they'll turn out nice in your book? Also, do you know how many pages you are able to print in one book?
