we've moved out

Temporarily that is. It all started this morning, at 4:20 am to be exact. Blake woke up crying, which is uncharacteristic of him. We decided to wait a few minutes to see if he would fall back asleep, but he seemed pretty upset. Brandon decided to give him the binki to call him down, when his first step out of bed was a wet one. "Our house flooded again," were the first words out of his mouth.

You see, we've been through this routine before. A few times. The first time happened the night before we left for Europe. The second time happened this same weekend 2 years ago. We know the drill.

We calmed Blake down and then got to work. We swept up 10 buckets of water and that's not counting all the water B wrung out of the towels. We had a good 1/2 inch of standing water covering our kitchen floor, living room and bedroom. We located the culprit--a broken water heater.

Our landlord rented an industrial water vacuum and emptied it numerous times. Despite our efforts, the carpet was too wet to call it good enough. Industrial fans will be going non-stop until the carpet and padding gets dry. We've packed up our stuff and are staying at Grandma and Grandpa's house until it's live-able again.

Is this really happening again?
So that's our weekend adventure. We wrote the good and bad last time this happened, so here it is for this time around.

The Bad:
-Trying to keep a 15-month old out of the water and away from the fans was nearly impossible. Add in pouring rain and it was a bit tricky to find ways to keep him occupied.
-We missed the adult session of Stake Conference. That is always my favorite.
-I had to cancel my plans to take dinner to a friend who just had a baby.
-Our house is a disaster. And nasty. Flood cleanup is so fun.

The Good:
-Blake waking up when he did was the biggest blessing of all. I don't even want to think about how much damage we'd have if it leaked all night long.
-Timing was great. The fact that we were home when it happened was a blessing. We'll be traveling a little bit over the next while. If the flood happened while we were gone for days on end, well, bad news. Period.
-We get a weekend stay at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
-We're learning to rely on other people. No joke, we just had a conversation last night about how we need to be not so independent.

Until next time...
