We got up early the next morning and drove about 2 1/2 hours to the Grand Canyon. I have only been to the North Rim and Brandon vaguely remembered his visit there when he was a little boy, so it was a must-see on our trip. I'm not sure what the park is like in the summer, but it was very uncrowded this time of year.
I don't remember being that impressed with the Grand Canyon last time I went. This time, however, was a completely different story.
Our first view of the canyon was from the Desert View Tower. We climbed a million and one steps to get to the top, but it was worth it for our calves and the views.
Then we drove to the Main Visitor's Center. On the way, we saw some elk? Not 100% sure what type of animal it was.
We had a picnic lunch and then walked along the South Rim for a while. And took a million touristy pictures because that is what tourists do. It was really breathtaking.
We didn't want to leave, but since we had another 5 hours to drive, we left the sunshine and fresh air to head South to even more sunshine. Oh yeah. That's what we are talking about.
