i ♥ yard sales

Going to yard sales is one of my favorite things about summer.

Some of the steals I've found lately:

storage shelves $4 each
books for blake only 10 cents each!
picture frames ranging from 25 cents to 50 cents!
and my very favorite: a large circle mirror for $1.50!!

when h & em came to town

Em came into town for a few days for my grandpa's funeral. It was a last minute trip, so we were really glad that we had a pretty free week (it's been rare this summer) so we could get Blake and Hudson together. (And have an excuse for some girl time including thrifting, catching up on the Bachelorette, painting nails, and chatting the night away.) The minute that we put the boys together on the couch, they grabbed each other's hand. Sure sign they are going to be good friends, right?

The next morning, we let them "play" together. They babbled back and forth, played with each other's hands, and Hudson even tried to suck on Blake's arm.

It happened to be Blake's 5 month birthday that day. What a treat to get to spend the day with his cousin Hudson. We also took the boys to a pool party. I found Blake's cute swimsuit on a Gap clearance and it makes me happy that he is getting some use out of it.

Oh yeah. And we tried out red lipstick. Obviously, this is not the occasion to wear it, but my dad was re-shingling the roof and the moment was too perfect not to capture it. His face does not lie. I'm pretty sure he was thinking, "I do not agree with my daughter's lipstick decision" at this exact moment. :)

We had a blast. Come back soon!

The 411

Did you know that April 11th is National Fondue Day? We didn’t either until this year.
We headed downtown and first enjoyed the lovely signs of Spring.

The Melting Pot was our main destination.

The fondue was fun.

But the best part of the night was getting the bill: $0.00.
We hope they give away free fondue every year.

The Way We Like to Shop

I just got back from Smith's and scored a jackpot!
For $16, I got:
24 boxes of pasta, 4 bags of pasta,2 salsas
10 powerades, cool whip, lettuce, and parmesan cheese.

Pinching Pennies is awesome! Why spend more on food than you have to?

If you need some candy...

My sister Sarah and I scored a jackpot on candy at Target.
No, we're not big candy people.
But a 75% off sign was too hard to pass up.
As we were discussing if we really needed it and how long it would last, a lady filling her whole cart full told us that she only buys candy once a year and its when its on a good sale like this.

That sealed the deal. We're banking on the fact that it will last until next Halloween.

We got giddy as the grand total for all of this was $11!

If you are in a sugar bind, you know where to come :)
